Make a pair of small festive creatures from the same rounded body: one red character with soft horns and a green scarf, and one brown pudding-inspired character with a white cap, holly and a red bow. Separate face patches replace complicated tapestry eye insets, and sewn white strips create the icing drips. That keeps every component small enough to count before assembly.
About this edition: The earlier design outline has been replaced with a fully specified construction. The sewn face patches, icing strips and soft horns in this edition determine the result; they differ from details that may appear in the concept image. This is an AI-assisted Croshly editorial version with reviewed stitch arithmetic. A physically crocheted test sample and measured finished size are not documented. The AI project illustration is a styling concept; use the written construction below as your guide.

Materials and abbreviations
- DK yarn in red, brown, white, beige, green and black. Keep a 25–50 g supply of each main body color and small quantities of the detail colors available. These are planning reserves, not measured usage.
- A 3.0 mm hook as a starting point. Use a size that creates a firm fabric without stuffing showing, and keep the yarn thickness consistent across the pieces.
- Polyester filling, tapestry needle, scissors, a stitch marker and removable assembly pins.
- Black embroidery thread for the eyes and mouth. The construction uses no wire, plastic eyes, beads or buttons.
US terms: ch = chain; sc = single crochet; sl st = slip stitch; inc = 2 sc in one stitch; dec = sc the next 2 stitches together; MR = magic ring. A bracketed sequence is repeated the stated number of times. Work rounds in a continuous spiral and move a marker into the first stitch of each new round. Turning ch 1 does not count as a stitch. Leave about 20 cm of yarn for sewing whenever an attachment tail is needed.
Make one red body and one brown body. The body starts at its base and closes at the crown. All attached parts are worked separately. There is no fixed finished-size claim because these instructions have not been physically test-crocheted by Croshly.
Rounded bodies, make two
| Round | Instruction | Stitches |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 6 sc in MR. | 6 |
| 2 | inc in every stitch. | 12 |
| 3 | [sc, inc] 6 times. | 18 |
| 4 | [2 sc, inc] 6 times. | 24 |
| 5 | [3 sc, inc] 6 times. | 30 |
| 6 | [4 sc, inc] 6 times. | 36 |
| 7–16 | sc in every stitch; 10 rounds. | 36 each |
| 17 | [4 sc, dec] 6 times. | 30 |
| 18 | [3 sc, dec] 6 times. | 24 |
| 19 | [2 sc, dec] 6 times. | 18 |
| 20 | [sc, dec] 6 times. | 12 |
| 21 | dec 6 times. | 6 |
For the red character, work all rounds in red. For the pudding character, work Rounds 1–16 in brown, then change to white at Round 17 and complete Rounds 17–21 in white. Bring the new color through on the last pull-through of the previous round. Add stuffing before Round 19, then top up through the smaller opening. After Round 21, gather the last 6 stitches closed and secure the yarn inside.
Circular face patches, make two
With beige, Round 1: 6 sc in MR (6). Round 2: inc in every stitch (12). Round 3: [sc, inc] 6 times (18). Sl st in the next stitch and fasten off with a long sewing tail. These patches remain flat and unstuffed.
Embroider two small eyes on each patch, about 3 stitches apart, and add a short mouth below them. Position each patch on the front of its body, approximately across Rounds 12–16. Pin and check the face from straight ahead, then sew around the full 18-stitch edge. Do not insert eye hardware or make chain-space eye holes.
Hands and arms, make four
For each arm, Round 1: with beige, 6 sc in MR (6). Round 2: sc around in beige (6). Rounds 3–6: change to the matching body color and sc around (6 each). Fasten off with a sewing tail. Add only a small pinch of filling to the hand, or leave it unstuffed. Flatten the top and sew across 3 pairs of stitches. Attach a pair at the sides of each body around Rounds 11–12, below the face patch.
Boots and legs, make four
With black, Round 1: 6 sc in MR (6). Round 2: [sc, inc] 3 times (9). Rounds 3–5: sc around (9 each). Round 6: [sc, dec] 3 times (6). Lightly stuff the lower boot, flatten the opening and sew across 3 pairs. Attach two boots to the lower front of each body around Rounds 2–4, with the feet pointing forward. These are seated decorations; use a stable display surface or support rather than expecting a tall unsupported standing pose.
Soft horns for the red creature
Main horns, make 2 in black: Round 1, 4 sc in MR (4). Rounds 2–7, sc around (4 each). Fasten off with a tail and leave the lower opening open. The starting ring forms the closed tip. Add no wire; these horns remain soft rather than poseable.
Branches, make 2 in black: Round 1, 4 sc in MR (4). Rounds 2–3, sc around (4 each). Sew the open base of one branch onto the side of each main horn around Rounds 4–5. Sew the main horn bases to the top sides of the red body, around Rounds 18–20, with the branches angled outward. Reinforce each attachment and hide the ends inside.
White icing drips for the pudding creature
Make four narrow strips in white. For a 3-stitch drip, ch 4 and sc in the second chain and remaining chains (3). For the other drips, start with ch 6, ch 5 and ch 7 to make strips of 5, 4 and 6 sc respectively. Fasten off each with a sewing tail.
Place the upper ends at the white-to-brown boundary around Round 17, with the strips extending downward over the brown fabric. Distribute them around the sides and back, avoiding the centre of the beige face patch. Sew down both edges and the lower tip of every strip so nothing hangs loose. The white crown remains the solid cap made in body Rounds 17–21; no undocumented tapestry color chart is required.
Holly topper
Berry: with red, Round 1, 6 sc in MR (6); Round 2, inc around (12); Round 3, sc around (12); Round 4, dec 6 times (6). Add a little stuffing, gather the 6-stitch opening closed and secure it.
Leaves, make 2 in green: ch 6. Starting in the second chain, work sc, hdc, dc, hdc, then 3 sc in the last chain. Turn the work to continue along the unused opposite side of the foundation: hdc, dc, hdc, sc. Join with sl st in the first sc. This makes 11 worked edge stitches, excluding the joining slip stitch. Fasten off with a tail. Here hdc is half double crochet and dc is double crochet in US terms.
Pin both leaves to the white crown with their bases meeting near the top centre. Sew them down, then sew the red berry over the meeting point. Keep the topper attached to the crown rather than leaving it loose.
Green scarf and red bow
Scarf: with green, ch 49. Row 1: sc in the second chain and each remaining chain (48). Row 2: ch 1, turn and sc in the back loop of all 48 stitches. Fasten off and weave in the ends. Wrap around the red body below the face, around Rounds 10–11, cross the short ends and stitch the overlap down. If the strip does not fit your actual fabric, remake it using a longer or shorter foundation; each extra chain adds one worked stitch.
Bow: with red, ch 9. Row 1: sc in the second chain and remaining chains (8). Rows 2–4: ch 1, turn, sc across (8 each). Fasten off, leaving a long tail. Pinch the rectangle at its centre and wrap the tail around the middle about 5 times. Secure the wraps and sew the bow below the brown creature’s face patch, around Rounds 10–11.
Assembly checkpoints
- Each closed body ends at 6 stitches after Round 21. Pause if a decrease round ends at another total.
- Each face patch has 18 edge stitches. Sew it to the body without stretching it into an oval.
- Each arm top has 6 stitches and closes across 3 pairs; each boot does the same after its final decrease.
- Make 2 main horns and 2 branches for the red character only. Make 4 icing strips, 2 leaves and 1 berry for the brown character only.
- Remove all pins, secure the scarf overlap and inspect the topper, horns and limbs before display.
Care and display
Display the pair on a shelf or table away from young children and pets. Their attached details have not undergone toy-safety testing. Spot clean gently according to the yarn and filling labels, reshape and allow the stuffing to dry fully. Store without crushing the soft horns or pulling on the sewn icing strips.
